Obituary of Eleanor Anne Heighton

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

1940 - 2011

Eleanor Anne Heighton passed away peacefully on September 11, 2011, at the F.W. Green Home in Cranbrook, B.C.

Eleanor was born on July 9, 1940, in Trail, B.C., daughter of Ken and Isabel Pople (deceased). Eleanor became a successful hairdresser, running her own shop in Trail for many years, despite being legally blind since the age of 9. While living in Pine Point, NWT, Eleanor enjoyed caring for children as a teacher's assistant. Her final business venture was opening her own family-oriented hairdressing shop in Cranbrook.

Eleanor loved music, gardening, cooking, and her dogs. She was known for being a great host and was often the "life of the party" with her quick wit and sense of humour.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Bill, son Tim (Jennifer), brother Keith Pople (Maureen) and their daughter Janet. She is also survived by sister-in-law Kay Crockett (Rod) and their children, Terry, Tammy, Brad and Doug; sister-in-law Shirley Langille and her children, Korry and Kelly; sister-in-law's husband Stan Langille, and his children Cheryl, David, Kathy and Brenda; brother-in-law's wife Joyce Heighton and her children Calvin Jr. and Kim. She is predeceased by her brother-in-law Calvin Heighton, sister-in-law Betty Langille, and nephews Kevin Langille and Ken Pople.

The family would like to thank Kay Crockett for her loving care, Liz Duchscherer for her tireless support and Dr. Linda Smith for her compassion during the last several years. Thanks also go to all the staff at the F.W. Green Home for their thoughtful care.

There will be no funeral service. A reception to celebrate Eleanor's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC (300 - 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1E2; www.alzheimerbc.org).

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
