Obituary of Elizabeth Steele Bakken

1926 - 2011

Betty Bakken passed away peacefully in Cranbrook, British Columbia on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the age of 85. Born in Larkhall, Scotland on March 26, 1926, she immigrated to Canada as an infant with her mother and father and brother Jim, first to Stony Plain, Alberta and then to Kimberley until her marriage and then a permanent move to Cranbrook in 1944.

She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Jack Kelly and her brother Jim. Betty is survived by her loving husband Allan, daughter Marilyn Dezall, granddaughters Lora-Lee (Stuart) Murray of Stewart, BC and Jana (Mike) Hirsch of Medford, Oregon, 3 great granddaughters: Kelly and Hailey Murray and McKenzie Hirsch. Also surviving Betty are her sister Margaret (Del) Loraas of Kelowna, brother-in-law Jim (Ann) Bakken of Salmo and sisters-in-law Ruby Bakken of Cranbrook and Marion Kelly of Ottawa, brother-in-law Dave Dakin of Marysville and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration Of Life for Betty will be held at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Her Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a memorial donation in honour of Betty Bakken to the Alzheimer Society of B.C., #300 - 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2 would be truly welcome.

Betty's family are so thankful to all who in any way made life easier for Betty. This gracious lady will be greatly missed.
