Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

(nee Eliuk)

August 14, 1951 - November 2, 2011

Maria was born on August 14, 1951 to Sam and Dorthy Eliuk. She was their second child and grew up in Marysville, British Columbia and later in Kimberley, British Columbia.

In 1971 she married the love of her life Robert "Bob" Hunt and moved out to Meadowbrook where they raised their 4 children. She owned the Dog'n'Suds in the early years of their marriage and later worked for School District 6 (SD6), where she ended up running the cafeteria in Selkirk. Family was the most important to her, dinners where all were welcome even if you arrived at the last moment, there was always enough. A housefull for swimming or cards or just for tea brought her great joy. She was proud of all her children, and encouraged them all to be individuals. As her children grew, she decided to add more, and became a foster parent. Each foster child was welcomed and expected to be part of the family. Adding the stars to her world, her grandchildren were each special and loved unconditionally, her legacy of family, forgiveness and acceptance will live on with them.

She leaves behind her husband of 40 years Bob Hunt, her children Nancy (Morris), Lisa (Ian), Julie (John) and Bob Jr., her grandchildren Kassandra, Kayla, Taylor, Dayton, Ryan, Hunter, Santana, William, Taya, Nathen and Ryder, her foster grandchildren Aiden, Tandra and Chad, her brothers Jayson Eliuk, Grant Eliuk and Dean Eliuk, her sisters Cathy (Doug) Kelly, Joan (Scott) McInns and many nieces and nephews, in-laws and foster kids. She was predeceased by her parents Sam and Dorthy Eliuk and brother Donnie.

A Celebration of Life for Maria will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Kimberley, British Columbia with a reception to follow at the Elks Hall in Kimberley. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Mark Creek Lions Club in Kimberley, may be made.
