"A Man Outstanding in his Field"

With the afternoon sun shining through his window at the Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home, and a doe and fawn grazing on the lawn below, Waldo died peacefully in his 92nd year.

Waldo was born on the family farm in Groton, Alberta, the third of the seven children of Frank and Mary Dixson. In 1962 he brought his family to the Moyie Lake area where he developed the 530-acre Narrows Ranch. He enjoyed a long life of good health and good humor in which he claimed "I never had a bad day". His joys were his family and many friends, country dances, card games and horseshoes. His passion was for outdoor activity including his vegetable garden, Christmas tree harvesting, game guiding days, trapping and game calling, cutting the winter firewood, shoveling snow, to name just a few. He was a life-long farmer/rancher, involved in 4-H, Cranbrook Cattle Auction yard and Back-country Horsemen among others. He was also active in various community associations including the Moyie Community Association and the historic Moyie Water Company. He will be missed by all those who have been a part of his long life.

Waldo is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ellen "Bobby" Dixson, his daughters, Arlene (Dave) Steadman of Ottawa, Lynn (Larry) Coldwell of Nova Scotia, son Keith of Cranbrook and grandchildren Cameron and Kyle Steadman, Brennan and Callista Coldwell, Katrina Smith, Jaclyn Dixson, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Bula Kerkhoff, Geneva Richardson and Louise Craig and by stepdaughters Ann (Bob) Hopkins, Julie (Leon) Nowek, Mary (Brian) Fleming and Jeanne (Chris) Brock and their children Shane McLennan, Adam Nowek, Scott and Alison Fleming and James Newman.

He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Dixson, his former wife, Adeline, brothers, Ralph and Glen and sister, Vera Greff.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at McPherson's Funeral Chapel at 2200 - 2nd Street South, Cranbrook, BC.

Donations in Waldo's memory may be made to the Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home, 1700 - 4th Street South, Cranbrook, BC, V1C 6E1.
