Obituary of Vonda Faye Tugwell

1918 - 2013

It is with sorrow that the family of Vonda Tugwell announce she passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the F. W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 95 years of age.

Vonda was born on January 16, 1918 in Burwell, Nebraska. She was raised on a farm in Neilburg, Saskatchewan. She moved to Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the early 1940's. There she met Thomas "Bud" Tugwell and they were married on December 12, 1946. They raised their family and lived in Ucluelet for over 60 years. Vonda worked at the local Co-op store for many years and was an active member of St. Aidan On-The-Hill Church. In September 2012 Vonda moved to the F. W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook to be closer to her family.

Vonda is survived by her sister Helen Gordey of Creston, BC; her sister-in-law Doris Ball of Calgary, AB; her daughter Loraine (Brian) Pilon of Wembley, AB; her son Rick Tugwell of Cranbrook, BC; her granddaughter Mary Pilon of Vancouver, BC and various nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas "Bud" Tugwell; her brother Robert Ball; her sisters Rowene (Bill) Livingstone, Doris (Jim) Smithson, Ruth (Marvin) Paulus, and Grace (Ward) McLean and her brother-in-law Dan Gordey.

A memorial service for Vonda will be held on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Christ Church Anglican in Cranbrook, BC at 1:00 pm. Vonda will be interred in the Ucluelet Cemetery in Ucluelet, BC in July 2013 and there will be a reception and gathering to share memories. Those details will be posted in mid to late June 2013. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in honour of Vonda may do so to the charity of their choice.
