Obituary of Margaret Elinora Rasmussen

September 2, 1933 - January 1, 2012

Margaret passed away, peacefully at home, on Monday, January 1, 2012 after a short battle with lung cancer.

After completing nurses' training in Winnipeg, Margaret worked and travelled in the USA, BC, Alberta and Manitoba. She and Eric met and married in Manitoba, later moving to Edgewater, BC. Many years were spent working at the Invermere Hospital. She was a wonderful companion to Eric, sharing a life of working the land through gardening, farming and harvesting Christmas trees. In 1991, they relocated to Invermere, becoming very involved in the community. Their home was always welcoming to family and friends. Much travelling included camping with Good Sam, cruising and international trips. On retirement, Margaret's hobby was "playing", including hiking, bridge, seniors' hall, fitness centre, friendships and laughter with so many. Margaret was a shining light with her ever-ready smile and friendliness.

The family extends heart-felt thanks to all who provided care and support these past months, and most especially to Dr. Maria Dibb.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Eric, and two children, Thora and Reid (Heidi). Born in Arborg, Manitoba, she was the youngest of 16 children. She was predeceased by 11 siblings, surviving sisters are Kristiana Clark, Thordes Wilson, Valdine Prentice, and Olaf Sigurdson.

A celebration of her life will be held April 7, 2012 at Christ Church Trinity, in Invermere, British Columbia at 2:00 pm. As per her request, donations in Margaret's memory can be made to the Invermere Health Care Auxiliary, Box 571, Invermere, BC, V0A 1K0, or a charity of your choice.
