1943 - 2010

It is with great sorrow that the family of Gary Earl Hellmen announces his passing on Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 67 years of age.

Gary was born on April 15, 1943 in Kimberley, British Columbia. He spent 10 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Greenwood, Nova Scotia prior to his employment at the Skookumchuk Pulp Mill for 34 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. Gary also had a passion for gold mining. He could often be found outside spending time with his two dogs River and O.D.

Gary's grandchildren were the light of his life and he looked forward to his time spent with them, especially if it was around the campfire. He also loved to travel.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Gail of 43 years; his daughter Pat Hellmen and her children Nick and Emily Johnson; his son Eric Hellmen (Yvonne Streich) and his children Rielly, Kaden and Jessie Hellmen; daughter-in-law Theresa Hellmen; sister Lynn (Orlando) Towes; brother Ray (Shannon) Hellmen as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Bryan.

A memorial service for Gary will be held at the McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honour of Gary may do so to the: Canadian Cancer Society, 19 - 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 2L9.
