I was saddened to hear of Edna's passing. She was a patient, caring swim instructor to my kids. She also took me under her capable 'wing' as she welcomed me to be the rookie on her curling team. My sympathies to the family on the loss of their mother and a wonderful person. I am sure she will be missed.

We are so sorry to hear of Aunt Edna's passing. I will always remember her for her great sense of humour ( her entry into Liz and Brian's kitchen with the grocery bag over her head to minimize impact of rain on her hair do as she ventured in from the "Waldorf Astoria" (her term for the trailer). She had an incredible capacity for hard work (no whining), and unflinching dedication to family (I cannot imagine what those remote posts must have demanded of a mother with two small children). She was an absolute jewel: genuine. And although we did not see her often, being from eastern branch of the Hayes family, every time we spent together was memorable. She and Uncle John hosted our family way back in the eighties, as we motored cross country, and they laid out the red carpet for us. We rode horses, ate well, and laughed a lot. I will think of her often and fondly; she was genuine, direct, and a fine example of strength in the face of adversity. Our condolences go out to you Cynthia, JM and family. Cynthia & JM,
Sorry for your loss. Your Mom sure had a good and full life. A little funny story to share from 50 years ago…. While visiting our cottage at Round Lake Ontario with the trailer, my mom (Bev) and your mom after some sun and G&Ts decided to colour Edna's hair blonde. It turned orange, and at 15 minutes to closing the two of them jumped in the car and made a mad dash to the pharmacy in the nearby town of Killaloe in search of a solution. They made it, and it worked. We often share that story when we drive that road.

Cynthia, John Michael and family, my sincere condolences to you!
I have many fond memories of many wonderful meals around Edna' s dining room table. Lots of lively discussions and many card games. Our families were always very close, and i always thought she was more my sister than my aunt! She was a very caring and passionate person! She will be sorely missed! Love to all, Donna and Dale and family

Cynthia, John Michael and family ... my heartfelt condolences to you.
I will always remember summers spent in Cranbrook when I was a kid. Auntie Edna's kindness and sharp wit made me look forward to the trek from Saskatchewan to the East Kootenays. She deeply loved her family and her grandsons. Her dogs and horses were always close to her heart and she took great pride in their care. I enjoyed going out to feed the horses with her in the evenings and she'd always teach me something new about them. She was a strong, compassionate woman that faced her fears and helped others do the same. I know she was loved and respected by the many kids she taught and coached swimming to over the years.
Rest in peace Auntie. You are loved and missed.

Cynthia, John Michael and family... we share your grief.
Edna was a wonderful mom, grandma and auntie. She had all the best attributes of being female..she was a warm, loving and compassionate person. She loved all of God's creatures, and was a pushover for any stray or injured animal.
Edna was a lot like your favourite pair of blue jeans...you loved them a lot while you had them, but only when they were gone did you realize how irreplaceable they were.
Edna was a soft pillow in a harsh world.
Farewell Auntie

Edna taught my youngest son first to not be afraid of water and then how to swim like a fish! He is in his 30s now. She was the best.
