Forever in our Hearts
January 7, 1922 - February 13, 2012
A Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, But most of all a Great Friend
Julia was born on January 7, 1922 to William and Annie Postnikoff in Glade, B.C. Julia was one of four children and was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers, Fred and Bill, as well as her sister Pauline. Julia was married to Lawrence Dechkoff and had two children, Julie and Ivan. Julia lived in Slocan City while her children were young and eventually moved to Fernie, BC where she became a single parent.
Julia was fortunate to meet the love of her life, Albert and they moved to Nelson together with son Ivan. They lived in Nelson until 1989 when they packed up their belongings and moved to Cranbrook, BC. Julia and Albert enjoyed travelling, which they did at every opportunity as well as boating and fishing. Albert predeceased Julia in 2004 which left a major void in her life.
Julia was a very generous person and would assist anyone who needed help, even if there wasn't a lot to help with. She had a "green thumb" and was able to grow the most amazing gardens and flower beds which always included a variety of roses. Julia cared for her gardens like she cared for her family, she was up early in the morning watering each flower / plant by hand to ensure that they had just the right amount of water and food. Her other love was her animals which there was always at least one around the house. Julia is survived by three of her animals, her cat, Mineau, who adopted her and Albert when they moved to Cranbrook as well as her two dogs, Aunie and Milo.
Julia enjoyed playing cards and you would see her playing solitaire till the wee hours of the morning. As well, she enjoyed crocheting which she did until her eyes failed her in the last few years of her life.
After the death of Albert, Julia lived on her own for a few years and then moved in with her daughter Julie who became her friend and caregiver for the remainder of her life. While Julia may not have been able to get around as easily , she was always able to keep in touch with all of her friends through her phone calls. Julia passed away peacefully in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on February 13, 2012 surrounded by her family.
Julia is survived by: her children Julie Jensen and Ivan Dechkoff (Tennette), her grandchildren, Barry Barber, Darcy Barber (Shawna), Jodie Dean (Michael), and Christopher Dechkoff (Brandi). She is also survived by her greatgrandchildren; Curtis Barber, Carlie Barber, Gavin Barber, Kenton Barber, Edyn Barber, Shannon Dean and Ryan Dean. Nieces Ann Histed, and Kathy Wadley, nephew Philip Postnikoff and extended families.
Julia and Albert's ashes will be interred together in the columbarium in the Serenity Gardens at Westlawn Cemetery in Cranbrook, B.C.
Listen! My lover! Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills. My lover is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look! There he stands behind our wall, gazing through the windows, peering through the lattice. My lover spoke and said to me, "Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me."

You will be missed but never forgotten!
