1948 - 2016
Martin passed away unexpectedly at home with his wife Jacqui and faithful 4-legged friend Maddie at his side on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 68 years of age.
Martin was born on April 3, 1948 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He emigrated to Canada in 1971 and made his home in Calgary, AB. He met Jacqui on the ship coming to Canada and they married in Calgary in 1972. In 1973 they moved to Cranbrook. Martin worked in sales for McDonald Tobacco covering the East and West Kootenays for 13 years. He then spent 12 years working for Cintas/Zee Medical.
Martin made many friends through his travels. His interests included Formula 1 Racing and his Limousine Company he owned for 2 years driving people to weddings, special events and graduations.
Martin is survived by his cherished wife and best friend Jacqui, his adored daughter Rachel of whom he was very proud and his grandchildren Paityn and Braidy to whom he was a devoted Papa. He will be missed by his sister Bep (Tony) and his nieces Nancy, Denise and Debbie in Calgary, his nephews Tony and Ernie in Holland and their families and his brothers-in-law Roy (Doreen) and Raymond (Monica) in Ontario. Martin was predeceased by his parents and his sister Hannie in Holland.
A celebration of Martin's life will be held at the Eagles Hall in Cranbrook on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Martin's honour may do so to the: East Kootenay S.P.C.A.,
