1929 - 2010

John Lloyd "Jake" McInnis was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on November 25, 1929 and passed away peacefully in Cranbrook, British Columbia on August 16, 2010.

Jake attended school in Vancouver and spent his summer as a teenager in Lone Butte as a wrangler. At 18 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked as an electronic technician in telecommunications in Canada and England.

In 1953, Jake met Airwoman Nadine Fleury in Clinton, Ontario and they were married two months later in Rossland, B.C. Over the next ten years Jake and Nadine lived in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan where their children were born. After retiring from the RCAF, the family settled in the lower mainland of B.C where Jake worked as an electrical instructor until he graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Masters Degree.

Jake continued at Vancouver Community College as the Dean, Vice Principal, and finally Principal for the next decade, it was here that Jake met some life long friends, nine of whom joined together with him to buy, establish and run Tee Pee Trailer Park and Trout Farm at Cultus lake with the help of their wives - some of the most memorable years of his life. In early 1982, Jake and his wife moved to Cranbrook, BC when he accepted the position of President at East Kootenay Community College. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary, volunteered in many positions over the years including the hospital board. He volunteered for the C.E.S.O. serving in BC, Viet Nam and Honduras over many, many years. He was also very politically motivated and ran in the federal election. Jake enjoyed many interests over his life including playing the drums in the military band, flying, sailing, practicing magic, fishing, golfing, and of course loved his dog Heidi. After retiring from EKCC Jake founded JL McInnis and Associates and ran a very successful consulting business.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years Nadine McInnis; Cathy (Brian) Harvey, Sue (Rob) Bell, Julie Johnson, Linda Hannah, Lisa (Wade) McInnis, Todd (Elizabeth) McInnis; grandchildren: Monty, Miranda, Rebecca, Sarah, Christina, Stephen, Matthew, Pamelin and Colton; great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Marcus and Aiden.
