As BC Park Operators also located in the Kootenay region, our history with Joe goes back 20 yrs. We learned to depend on and share comfortably with Joe on a wide variety of topics. Joe represented a strong voice among us and brought thoughtful and well researched ideas for change. We regarded him as a reliable and trustworthy colleague. He was always willing to spend a summer afternoon on the phone discussing and strategically tackling mutual challenges. His unique style of humour reminded us not to take things too seriously!
Apart from knowing Joe on the work front, we also liked him as a human being. Infectious chuckle and grin - an easy warm personality. We were honoured to know Joe and won't forget in future years our fond memories of working alongside him in managing park contracts. We are sure that he left Jenna and Andrew much wisdom and guidance to help them become successful in their endevours. What a great legacy!
Our warmest thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
A toast of well aged scotch goes out to Joe! He will be missed.

Dear Karen and Family,
the last time I ran into Joe was last summer at Home Hardware. He was about to purchase a wheelbarrow. He invited me to sit in it so he could cart me around the store. Well, we did just that! To have someone make us laugh from deep inside our bellies is one of the greatest gifts in life. Joe has always done that for me - with his outrageous pranks and wild sense of humor he still makes me smile just thinking of him.
My heart goes out to you all.
Kindly, Martina

Karen and family, there are no words to express the sorrow that we feel for you all.
Big Joe was one of a kind and one of the nicest people we have ever had the honour of knowing. We have never known anyone that had so many friends yet always had room for more. A person could go years without seeing him, yet when you met you picked up right where you left off in your friendship with him. Even a short visit with Big Joe left you smiling for days after. Even though we are devastated with his passing, we find ourselves chuckling with memories of his antics. He was one of the most charismatic individuals we have ever known.
Here are some of our favourite Big Joe sayings and moments:
- 10% Jakey (yet is was more like 25 - 40%)
- Holy mother (bleep)
- Bowling your over to get to your fishing rod if you weren't paying attention when you had a bite
- Going for a pocket dog 30 minutes after having prime rib dinner
- Telling his daughter he didn't want a bite of her donut, he just wanted to hold it in his lips
- The freezer of a thousand eyeballs
- Could never have enough fishing gear (last we heard he had 38 fishing rods)
- Mr. Spud, what part of don't shoot a big moose did you not understand?
- All the interesting things you could find in his truck......eating utensils, lost bags of fish bait......
The list is endless. We will cherish the time that we had with Big Joe.

We are so sorry for your loss, Joe was a real character, great great guy a real zest for life. Joe and I shared many ice fishing trips to Premier lake, I can see Joe in his wool pants and suspenders with his hoodie on, reeling in a fish and when he would land the fish he would look around and then he would belt out his favourite saying "who is the best fisherman in the east kootenay and why am I " and we would laugh every time. Joe will be missed big time a true great friend!
Take care gang
