I remember the day I first met Mildred. It was a Sunday morning at First Baptist Church in Cranbrook; it was December 2007, and we were both fairly new congregational adherents. Mildred and I seemed to immediately strike up a friendship. As I reflect on it now, although there were 47 years between us, I believe what connected our spirits together, was our shared love of good conversation that was open, spiritually-focused on God, and just plain funny! We began to share our life stories, and this continued over the next 2 1/2 short years that we were friends. I came to be the blessed recipient of Mildred's care, wisdom, frank sense of humour, and last, but not least, her smoked canned salmon! (I have never tasted anything that has compared to it since!) To Mildred's children and family, I am thankful for having known your mother for the short time that God placed her on my life path while we were both in Cranbrook. My husband and I last visited with her at her home in December, prior to our move to the north. We regretted not being able to return for her funeral service, But I will never forget her - she welcomed me into her life like I was family. Thank you for sharing your mother with me. May your memories of her love of life and her example of living always bring you peace and deep joy.
