Obituary of Elizabeth Draper

Elizabeth passed away peacefully at home March 12, 2009. Born September 25, 1923 in Kimberley B.C., she was one of four children of Elizabeth and Evan Williams.

The family lived briefly in Wales and Calgary before settling again in Kimberley. At the age of 14, she met Art Draper, the love of her life. They were married 5 years later on July 12, 1943, and enjoyed 64 happy years of marriage. Elizabeth was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 57 years and more recently a member of the Daughters of the Nile. She had fun with the Red Hat Society and her Bridge Club. She was also a long-time member of the Anglican Church Women and volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary. With Art, they helped to found the Dr. Endicott Center and Cranbrook Juniper Day School for the Developmentally Challenged, which is now part of Community Living. With their children Donald, Billy and Jane Anne, they enjoyed Wasa and Moyie Lakes as well as family vacations in the U.S. Additionally they traveled internationally over many years, including searching out their family ties in Wales and England.

Elizabeth is survived by son Donald (Catherine) of San Jose California, daughter Jane Anne (John) Dunning of Richmond B.C. and six grandchildren: Michael (Karen Doan) and Shannon Dunning (Mike Ayotte), and Christopher, Matthew, Jeffrey and Nicholas Draper.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her loving husband Art in April 2008 and son Charles William (Billy) Draper in 1974.

On Thursday, March 19, 2009, a public visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30am followed by a Celebration service at 11:00 at Christ Church Anglican. A reception will be held in the Centennial Hall following the service after which there will be a family service in Westlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations in honour of Elizabeth can be made to Christ Church Anglican, 46 - 13th Avenue South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 2V3 or Jubilee Chapter #64 Order of the Eastern Star, c/o 2411 - 2nd Street North, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 4Z9.
