1939 - 2009

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Hilda on March 28, 2009 after a brief and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

Hilda was born in 1939 in Neuhaus, Germany and immigrated with her family to Winnipeg in 1952. An adventurer by heart, Hilda left Winnipeg for Vancouver where she was employed with Canadian Pacific Airlines and had an opportunity to work abroad in Hawaii. It was back in Vancouver that Hilda met a young guitar playing airline pilot named Richard whom she married in 1966.

Together they had two children, Colin born in 1967 and Julie in 1971. They moved to Cranbrook in 1974 to raise their family. Hilda trained as a Nursing Care Aide and spent many years working at the F.W. Green Memorial Home. With a keen interest in learning, Hilda enrolled in College and in 1996 completed her Office Administration Certificate. With a love of travel, Hilda returned home to Germany, visited the Queen Charlotte Islands and most recently would spend her winters golfing in California. Hilda was an incredibly resilient person and accepted the death of Richard in 1999 with true grace. She rebuilt her life and became very involved in the community as a Treasurer for the Hospital Auxiliary and a coordinator for Ladies Golf at the Cranbrook Golf Course. Hilda was an amazing problem solver and was often called upon by her family and friends for her sound and practical advice. She was a vibrant, beautiful woman with a wonderful sense of humour and unwavering positive outlook on life. She loved to play with her grandchildren, golf, dance and spend time with her many friends. She was a devoted and loving Mother, Oma, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend. She was the anchor of our family and her loss will be felt in the depths of our hearts.

Hilda will be missed and forever loved by her children; Colin Redisky, Julie and Phil Godsave, her grandchildren; Jacob, Lola Jeanne, Ian and Erica along with her sisters Christel (Ted) Linden, Anneliese (Horst) Schiesser; her brother Hubert (Pam) Reineke and many, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Hilda was predeceased by her husband Richard, parents; Konrad and Christine Reineke and brothers Meinolf and Heinz. Prayers may be offered at McPherson's Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Christ the Servant Catholic Church.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Drs. Cecile and Greg Andreas and Homecare RNs Joan and Christina for their compassion and loving care of Hilda. A special thanks to the wonderful nurses of the Hospital Palliative Care Unit for ensuring Hilda's comfort during her last few days with us.
