Obituary of Norman Nelson Walter

Norman passed away suddenly on December 6th, 2010 at the age 58 at his home in Kimberley, B.C.

Norm was born on March 12th, 1952 at Red Deer Hospital, and spent his childhood in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. He attended Sylvan Lake School and graduated in 1970. He met his wife Jane and married her on May 18th, 1973. They moved to Kimberley where he resided for the remainder of his life. Norm worked for many years at Cominco. In the early years he volunteered as a Beaver leader, and was active in union safety and a member of the mine rescue team. He was always very active in his community through organizations and public events, such as the lions club and coaching platzl hockey. His face and his voice was a pleasant feature at the Wasa pancake breakfasts. Norm and Jane were foster parents for teenage boys for eight years. His dedication to the RDEK proved his love and commitment to the local communities. Throughout his life he fought for equal and fair treatment of all people. No matter what the race, religion, social status or beliefs a person may have, Norman Walter could always be counted on to ensure that their voices were heard. Norm always had a true passion for life, whether it was singing his favourite songs at the karaoke bar or enjoying good food and drink with friends, he could always be counted on to provide joy to those around him.

Norm is survived by his Wife Jane and his children Brandi, Lorne, and Brian, His brothers Gordon (Joyce) Walter of Sylvan Lake, AB, Bruce (Darlene) Walter of Red Deer, AB, Lorne and Betty Peabody of Rimbey, AB, Grant Peabody of Rimbey, AB, Jill Desjarlais (Peabody) of Delta, BC, JoAnn McKenzie (Peabody) of Delta, BC.

Norman was predeceased by his Loving Parents Esther and Gustav Walter and his brother John Peabody.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kimberley Food Bank, 340 - Leadenhall Street, Kimberley B.C., V1A 2B1 .

There will be a service held at the Wasa Hall on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 2 pm. It will be an open service and all are welcome to come and celebrate Norm's life.
