November 28, 1929 - January 27, 2021
Gerry passed away peacefully at his home, in his favourite chair, at the age of 91. He was born in Drumheller, Alberta and was educated in Rosedale, Alberta, except for his final two years where he attended St John's and St Anthony's college in Edmonton. After completing his education, Gerry pursued a career in hockey where he played two years with the Medicine Hat Tigers. He then found his way to Kimberley, where he played for the Kimberley Dynamiters. Taking a break from the Dynamiters he managed to squeeze in one year playing for the Wembley Lions in the UK. Following his year in the UK he returned to Kimberley where he continued to play hockey and work for Cominco.
In 1954 he met the love of his life, Elia Fabbro and they were married in 1957. Gerry was a loving and caring husband and together they celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage. While helping raise his family; his love of hockey continued as Gerry transitioned from player to coach. He coached his son and a 1964 championship Kimberley Lions Juvenile team. He was deeply involved with both his sons as they played hockey in Kimberley. Gerry loved the lifestyle of the East Kootenay. He was passionate about golf, played daily on the Kimberley Golf Course and introduced his children to the game. He downhill skied into his 70's. He was fun loving and a joy to be around. Gerry’s greatest times were surrounded by an incredible group of friends and his family. He was a proud, supportive and an all-round tremendous person.
Gerry is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife Elia, sons, Brian (Alana), Alan (Marina) and daughter Janice (Douglas), grandchildren, Jessica, Max, Alex, Emma, Ciara, great granddaughter Olyvia, his brother and sister in-law Atillio and Helen Fabbro along with many nieces and nephews.
