In my first few years as curator at the Windermere Valley Museum, Ray would show up and go check out Crook's Cabin. After the third visit, I hailed him down and had to inquire why. He was just checking out the building he helped build and was happy to take the time to tell me some history. He was always happy and willing to share if you expressed and interest. I even got to see his humble side when he was in the paper or in the spotlight. I will miss his presents in the community but I know the Pioneer Cabin will always present a bit of him to everyone.

Ray's 95th birthday celebration with Gary and the Mount Crook climbers. Ray was the "salt of the earth", full of wisdom and kindness - a role model for us all. He will be missed.

Ray was a wonderful man who knew how to live a good life. Ray was a much-appreciated friend of the Stoddart/Hathaway family and we are happy that we were able to celebrate Ray's birthday with him last summer. Bernice and Mark Hathaway
