Olive Bjerstedt

Obituary of Olive Lilian Bjerstedt

Please share a memory of Olive to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

September 22, 1923 - December 18, 2021

The family of Olive Bjerstedt announce her peaceful passing, in her home at Joseph’s Creek, at the age of 98 years.

Olive was born on the homestead near Hallonquist, Saskatchewan, growing up on the farm and attending the one room “Nybo” School.  She married David Bjerstedt on February 23, 1944, in Vancouver and lived in Victoria for a short time before Dave went overseas with the R.C.A.F.  Olive returned to Saskatchewan where their daughter Darlene was born, and, after Dave returned from Burma they headed west in the winter of 1946.  Being snowed in in Cranbrook they made their new home here and became permanent residents.  In March of 1947, Leon’s birth made a family of four and Beverley completed their family in June 1949.

Olive was a great mother, homemaker and cook.  Her lifelong affiliation with the United Church, UCW, “Cellar”, and volunteer work were very important to her.  She was a bookkeeper for a time and worked as a ward clerk at St. Eugene and then the new Cranbrook Hospital.  She took joy in her extended family, world travel, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She has missed many of her close friends for a long time and will enjoy seeing them again for much loved “heavenly” coffee sessions.

Olive was predeceased by her parents Jack and Selma, her 4 siblings: Esther, Tena, Bob, and Len.

She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Dave; daughter Darlene and her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; son Leon (Vicki) and their 3 children, 6 grandchildren; daughter Beverley; and many nieces and nephews.

We love and miss you, Mom.

‘Til We Meet Again…

Olive’s family wish to thank those who cared for her at Joseph’s Creek Village, and Dane from McPherson’s whose warmth, kindness and professionalism have been so appreciated.

A service for Olive will be held at a later date.
