Dean McLay posted a condolence

We are sorry for your loss and send along our condolences. I got to meet Gerry in November of 1979 when I returned from Vancouver to my hometown of Kimberley and joined the Kimberley Knights. I was so pleased to discover that Gerry was the coach who brought a lifetime of experience and expertise to our club. I often used Gerry's coaching methods as an example for my clients as a business coach. Great leadership was second nature to him and he truly taught us that in order to be successful we needed to be a team, not a bunch of individuals with good skill. He was a masterful leader who exuded positivity and support. It was an honour to be part of his team. His impact has lasted a lifetime.
Rest in Peace Gerry.

We were so sorry to hear of Uncle Gerry’s passing. I am Vern’s daughter. We certainly have lost track of your dad ,but often spoke of him and followed his career.
I remember him as a very handsome young man, very in love with his Marg. I can remember them taking me to church one Sunday and then taking me to the restaurant and bought me a special Sundae …for a 10 year old that was pretty special and I never forgot it.
We were always so proud of his accomplishments, but know his first love was his family.Aunt Marg will be waiting at the gates to welcome him in.And all the Goyer boys and have a big hockey reunion.
Hold your memories close ,they will help get through this difficult time.
Our thoughts are with you.
Jeanett ( Goyer) Wood

I only met Gerry a few years ago through our mutual friend and one of Gerry's golf buddies Don Lindberg. I had heard of Gerry because of his hockey time as a player in the NHL with Stan Mikita in Chicago, a long career in the Western Hockey League and finally as a coach in the Cranbrook I believe.
Gerry was a quiet dignified gentleman, and I felt lucky to have met him..

Sad to hear the old 'Packer' has passed. We were volunteer drivers, along with Gerry, delivering hot meals in the Kelowna area, some years ago.

I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. Vern was my Dad and I had the privilege of meeting Uncle Gerry a few times over the years. It meant so much to my Mom when your Dad came home for my father’s wake. Gramma Goyer was always so proud of your Dad and his accomplishments as well as his siblings. I was lucky enough to have grown up with being able to hear all the stories of Dad and his brothers and their Uncles sports abilities. Belleville has honoured them in their hall of fame as they well deserved. Take care and know you will all be in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Your cousin Frances (Goyer) Hopkins
