Bill Westover was my good friend. I miss him terribly as do we all. The weekly Friday afternoon "Debriefing" sessions that we all enjoyed so much are a thing of the past now with Bill gone. My condolences to Vicki, Lindsey, Jeff and families - it's going to be very hard for you over the next while but it will get better with time.
Goodbye old friend and we'll see you on the other side of the river.

My brother Bill
Marce and I have found the last few weeks very hard. We really feel bad for Vickie, Jeff, Lindsey and your grand children and we hope they will be OK. I still find it hard to believe that you have actually left here. I can still remember a lot of what took place with you and me when we were just kids. I have a lot of great memories that will never leave me. You were great at everything – hunting, fishing, hockey, etc. even when you were a teenager. When I finished college I took a job that had me moving back and forth across Canada for the next 42 years and a lot of what we had together was put on hold. We did communicate with texts and phone calls in the last while but that was never the same as seeing you again. You stuck with fishing and hunting and you would send me pictures that I loved to see. I went hunting once with you when we both lived at home but as I recall it didn’t take long for you to take the rifle away from me as I had no clue what I was doing. When I finished working and traveling I went back to playing guitar and writing songs – I wrote one for you after you sent me the message about the problem you were having. It starts like this
He goes hunting – and I play guitar
We used to live close, but I moved so far
He goes fishing – and I write some songs
Used to see him, but now it’s so long
Now everyday my mind things of him
And with everyday my thoughts do not dim
It is so hard being this far away
And I pray to God – please make him OK
Things did not work out for you or your family and I am very sad about that. But I do know that you are one of those guys who would likely be talking to God now.
I will always love you Bill

Dear Lindsey,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Even though I didn’t know your father I can imagine what type of person he was .. he helped raise a daughter that is smart, composed and talented in many ways. Please pass my condolences to your family.

A truly dedicated provincial fisheries biologist who inspired my career but and an even better character and friend. I already miss those future opportunities for discussions and reflections about the people and the hunting and fishing tales from days past in the Cariboo and Kootenays. Bill always said we had the greatest job in the world and he was so right.

Condolences to Vicki and family. Brian has some good memories of hunting in the Caribou with Bill many years ago. Our freezer was full of moose for a couple of years after that trip. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Sincerely, Wendy & Brian
