Obituary of Harriatte Lillie Cross
Please share a memory of Harriatte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness and tremendous loss that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Sister. Mom passed away with family by her side on February 11, 2023 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
Harriatte was born in Elko BC on April 17, 1935 to parents Carl and Julia Ingham and had 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Harriatte met and fell in love with Sam when he traveled from Ontario and settled in the Galloway area. They were married in September of 1953 and had over 63 happy years together, and raised 3 sons.
When Harriatte’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while the husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Harriatte was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors, and she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy.
She was a wonderful cook and often hosted large family gatherings, making her famous and much in demand spaghetti dinners.
Hariatte was predeceased by her Husband Sam, her Parents Carl and Julia, Brothers Tom, Ed and Frank, her Sister Ella and her oldest Son Micheal.
Left to mourn mom’s passing are her brother Roger Ingham (Josie), sisters Carole Hallett (Gordon), Ann Corrigan (Lawrence) and Fran Portman (Rolly); sons Frank Cross (Pam), Russell Cross (Nancy), and daughters in-law Alida Lockhart (Stew) and Tracy Cross (Pat); Grandchildren Steven Cross (Amy), Corey Cross (Chelsea), Michelle Cook (Rowdy), Erica Cross Miles (Mike), Hayley Oakley (Wade), Mack Cross (Brandy), Ben Cross (Selena), Micheal Cross (Allison), Chelsea Pilote, and Dawson Pilote (Page). Nannies Great Grandchildren were very precious to her; she showered each with love, treasured visits and enjoyed watching their antics. Her Great Grandchildren Caelen, Cali, Tiara, Carson, Ty, Zoe, Morgan, Lucas, Austin, Rhett, Kurtis, Aiden, Rylee, Cole, Khloe, Wyatt, Kaedra and Avey will all miss her dearly, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
A celebration of Hariatte’s life will be held at McPherson Funeral Services (2200 2nd Street South, Cranbrook, British Columbia) on Saturday March 4, 2023 at 11:00 am.
Please join the family for a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary Society, 30-8th Avenue South, Cranbrook BC V1C 2K3; or the BC Cancer Foundation, 150-686 West Broadway, Vancouver BC V5Z 1G1.
