Carol Anne Thompson

April 6, 1940 – March 30, 2023

Carol was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, to parents Harold and Gunda Eckert. The family eventually moved to Penticton, B.C. in 1945. By then, Carol had two sisters, Patricia and Myrna, to look after as a big sister.

Carol met James (Jim) Thompson, (A railroader) in 1956 at a Christmas Party. They were married on April 5, 1958 and started their family, welcoming their son Michael in 1958 and daughter Jacqueline in 1960.

In 1961, Jim quit the railway and moved the family to Vancouver where he went to UBC for certification as a teacher. Their daughter Jan was later born in 1962. The Thompson family moved to Fort St. John that year and Jim taught there for 3 years. Meanwhile, through all of this, Carol was just Mom!

They moved to the West Kootenays, where Jim taught in Salmo and Carol worked in Nelson as a clerk in SuperValu and commuted to work each day. They stayed there for 3 years. Jim and Carol later had their son Maury in 1968 and moved to Cranbrook as their last move. Jim taught and Carol worked as head cashier in SuperValu until retirement in 1994. Jim retired in 1995 and they once again began their travels. A three-month trip across Canada and back via truck and trailer, many trips to the USA, Mexico, Cuba, Alaska, and Hawaii. Jim and Carol were happily married for 65 years, they had a good life and Carol was the best part of that.

Carol will be sadly missed by all.

Many thanks to Red Cross, Home Care Support, Home Health Services (nursing) and McPherson Funeral Services.
