I met Paul and Charmaine at a fundraiser for Rolf,I knew I had met a special couple,Paul would split firewood three four times a week for Rolf and Charmaine would make her gourmet meals. Paul was never judgemental of others and was always ready to lend a helping hand.At one point I decided I wanted a maintenance free garden at my home,Paul asked who is doing the work for you,of course I was the gardener doing the maintenance free, next day my friend Paul drove all the way to Fairmont to help me with garden, that was Paul always ready to help out others.Speaking of gardens Paul had the most organized vegetable garden on earth.I went to visit Charmaine early this Summer while Paul was on a hike with his Son,Before Paul left he said to Char.dont dig the potatoes yet ,they still have flowers on them.I decided to go dig his potatoes with Char,I said let's dig in the center and Paul won't notice anyway,I left with every vegetable known to man. When Paul returned I was on the phone with him I said thanks so so much for the great Spuds they were like the Spuds I had in Ireland light and fluffy, well Paul asked what are Spuds.Well we both sure had many laughs over my Spuds and when I spoke with Paul the day before he passed, he told me he had a bag of Spuds and vegetables in his garage for me,That was Paul thinking of others till the end. Both Paul and Charmaine have lovely family's. I met fifteen of the best behaved grand children and how proud Paul and Charmain are of all of them .
Until we meet again we hold you close within our hearts.

It's hard to capture such a big life in only so many words and photos, but Paul was truly one of the kindest, friendliest, helpful, happy, caring and all around nice guy we've ever met. Our hiking community has lost a star, we will miss him incredibly on the trails and in life, but his latest adventure has taken him from us and his family for now. Hike on in the heights, Pauly P, we will see you and your big smile on a mountain top again.

My first memory of Paul is as a musical theatre star, which may be a talent of his few know about.
We met in Rocky Mountain House in the mid 1980's, when I was living there, before I embarked on training in theatre and a professional career in performance. Paul and I hit the boards together in a community production of Rodgers' and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! with Paul playing Ike Skidmore and me playing Will Parker. We all laughed at the fact that Paul really was the only one in the show with actual ranching experience, so he was our go-to for any questions about accuracy. He was always our go-to for remaining grounded, optimistic and kind, as that was the essence of Paul. I wish we had kept in closer contact after I left Rocky - we would touch base occasionally on Facebook, and I would see him time to time when he was in Calgary. I remember one on of his visits he was telling me about working on a movie set, and all the exciting things he was learning there. True Paul - always embracing new challenges with such unbridled enthusiasm.
I'll also remember a quiet meal I had in his home with Cindy and the kids, eating rabbit (which I'm guessing they raised) for the very first time, thinking "Wow ... the love that's in this family is something most people can only dream of."

Paul was a special guy; we have lost a dear friend. I have met few people so kind, caring and genuinely friendly. It was always a good day when Paul showed up for one of our hikes. And he was always there to step in and help out on work bees whenever we asked. Paul was one of a kind and we will miss him greatly. John & Wendy Pitcher

Wow, a door closes and a window is opened. I first met Paul on the famed Ice Road. Paul's smile and laugh immediately captured you. I would often tease Paul and call him Canada's John Denver look alike. Paul was just one of those guys! You know, unwavering loyalty. Ready to lend a hand...ready to listen. We had many many great conversations about family an life in general. It was clear that family was everything to Paul! No matter what we talked about we always ended with the ever beaming smile and infectious laugh. After our stints on the Ice Road I had the pleasure of once again meeting Paul and Char as they toured Nova Scotia. It was like I had just seen him the day before. Paul and Char...such a beautiful couple. True "down to earth" people. I was so saddened to learn that Paul had passed. But, without question his spirit lives on. My sincere condolences to Char and all of Paul's family.

It is with a very sad heart that I remember Paul. He was 12 and was 1 was 14. New to Manotick as a city kid. He walked me from his farm to mine and gave me a grown up kiss. So funny. We shared many miseries of the summer on his farm with his brother Pete always picking on us until Paul’s mom would chase Pete out of the kitchen with her broom for being mean to us. I was so fortunate to have his daughters and Paul stay with me when his niece Shannon got married in Toronto and meeting up again at Hundred Mile house. Seeing how happy he was with Char after Cindy passed away, lunching with them in Niagara on the Lake was the last time I saw them. My heart goes out to his children and especially Char, having been widowed previously. As we all know…only the good die young.

When we first met Paul, he was helping Char make dinner in the house on Coachwood Rd. We knew that this was meant to be from the way they both looked at each other and how they worked as a team.
Char, your time with Paul was so short but so wonderful. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
Love you, Pat and Helen
