Obituary of Melvin Olsen
Please share a memory of Melvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deepest sadness that the family of Melvin Olsen announces his passing on December 5, 2024 in the Cranbrook Hospital.
Mel, is survived by his loving wife Linda (Berard), sons Danny (Tracy), Duane (Rhonda), and 5 Grandsons Tristin, Tanner & Teagan, Tallin & Trentin. Sisters Bernice (Grant) Geraldine (Rick) & Brother Gordon (Cheryl) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mel enjoyed many sports but loved to play hockey and ball, in later years he could be found at many of the local Golf Courses. His loud “whoo whoo” while playing hockey earned him the nickname of “the train”!
In later years he rarely missed watching a hockey, football or ball game from the comfort of his recliner with Linda by his side.
Mel was born in Kimberley to Evelyn and Alf Olsen on July 2, 1948 and spent his life in Marysville raising his sons with Linda.
From the age of about 18 Mel was employed by Cominco in the Sullivan Mine. He and his brother Gordon loved to swap stories over a nice cold mug of beer.
Mel could often be seen enjoying a mug in the Marysville Hotel or the Elks Club and even had his own chair in each of these establishments.
For many years Mel and Linda travelled to many of the surrounding lakes or across the border in their Motorhome. He loved to sit around the campfire in the evening and would even sing the odd tune now and then. He liked the call the flames “the dancing ladies”.
Mel loved deeply and was a loyal and honest friend.
At Mel’s request there will not be a formal service. There will be a Celebration of Life in the Spring of 2025.
