Sincere condolences to the family. I got to know Snuffy, years ago through his hard work to bring Logger's Sports to Cranbrook, and then later, he very kindly, played Santa, every year, at the bowling alley for our Forester kids. That jolly old elf will be sorely missed by all who knew him. R.I.P Snuffy

Ellen, John, Stacey:
I am sending my sincere condolences to you all and your families at this sad time. George was a real character and he will be remembered for his many escapades as Santa Claus, by all those who knew him. He was a "real Santa Claus" for sure in the Cranbrook area, and I'm sure he chose December as his special time to pass over. (He is probably just at the North Pole helping the Elves prepare for the special trip on Christmas Eve this year.)
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. You have many special memories of him to cherish.
Cheryl Leite

So sorry to hear of the passing of Snuffy. For myself I spent many hours in the Stapleton house when I was younger as the family lived just down the road from us on Silver Springs.
As I got older Snuffy would always stop and chat, he would never call me by name it was always “Billies boy “
He would always stop to talk or give me a big wave when ever we would meet
lots of great memories over the years, it just won’t be the same without him around

Q: What will you never forget about George?
A: Snuffy was a regular at the old Cranbrook pool. Watching him with his grand kids and treating all the kids the same, encouraging and assisting them on the rope swing and slide. The joy he had when he saw how much fun the kids were having was a treat for all the lifeguards. Snuffy was often invited to our in services as a willing victim. If we could get an unconscious Snuffy out of the pool we could get anyone out. Swimming with Santa was always a big hit. His contagious smile and gregarious personality will always be remembered. You added a lot of joy to this world. Thank you Snuffy!

Allthough, I didn't know him.
I do remember him being Santa Claus.
Rest in Peace SANTA.

I’m saddened to hear of snuffys passing even though I was one of those DOT guys. He was a character for sure, often pulling up to my patrol car for a chat as I waited for speeders. Once while waiting our turn in the fernie court house I was seated in front of him. It was hot so I took off my patrol jacket draping it on the chair back. When it was time to put the coat back on I soon figured out he had tied the sleeves together. We had a good laugh at that one. He used to tell me all about the huge load of gravel he had just hauled and got away with which might actually have been true on occasion because he often hauled that grey stuff from peavine. Once me, Clem and Glenn waited in uniform with the kids for our chance to sit on his knee for the Santa picture we gave to our boss for Christmas. What a lark! So long snuffy, you were one of a kind and where ever you are I’m sure you’re smoking that stinky cigar and bs,ing somebody. I’m glad to have known ya

George was always there to help someone. I remember when He painted my 64 kenworth. My wife told Him she didn't like my chosen color, and behold,it came home a different color. He was a special person in a lot of lives.

I am so sorry for everyone’s loss of Snuffy. He was loved by so many.
He would come to my grandmothers every Christmas Eve to give all of us kids presents and we all knew him as Santa. He was the reason growing up we all believed in Santa for so long. All of us kids getting told “Santa isn’t real” every single time would argue until we were blue in the face that Santa was in fact real, because we knew the real Santa. Thank you for all the amazing memories you gave us Snuffy ❤️

I am deeply saddened to hear of Snuffy’s passing. I have very found memories of him coming to our house when I was a child and him bouncing me on my Knee. My father George Macphee and Snuffy logged together in the 70’s.
Later in life Snuffy came to our house and played Santa for my daughter and nephews. He even had my dad sit on his knee, which we all got a kick out of.
When we couldn’t make it to Grandma’s for Christmas he would always call my daughter on Christmas Eve to wish her a Merry Christmas and make sure she was a good girl.
He made a lot of children believe!
He truly had a heart of gold.
Warm regards,
Donna Macphee Zmaeff
