Obituary of Michael John Woods

December 17, 1979 - June 22, 2011

Michael Woods, of Cranbrook, BC, passed away suddenly on Wednesday June 22, 2011 at the age of 31.

Michael was appreciated and loved by a vast array of people whom he met along his journey and always considered family and a part of his community. He gave warmth, humour and acceptance to everybody. True to himself, he championed those in need. A "True Renaissance Man" - he was a passionate writer, philosopher, and musician and was always striving to grow intellectually and emotionally, challenging those around him, and society - "a man before his time", refusing to become a minion, never a follower, and never compromising his values and beliefs in the face of societal pressure. Never one to be judgemental and always accepting of people, their spirits and beliefs.

Michael is survived by his mother Susan Woods, brother Chris (Yuka Yamamoto Woods) Woods, his partner in crime, Kylee Dougall, his Grandfathers Peter Woods and Don Fuller, and many loving and supportive Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends from all walks of life.

He is predeceased by his father Jerry Woods, Grandparents Joe and Dody Philpot, and Grandmothers Annette Fuller and Verna Bernie.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday July 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm at McPherson's Funeral Home (2200 - 2nd Street South in Cranbrook) followed by a pot luck gathering at his mother's home at 9856 - Esquire Rd, Moyie, BC. A public visitation will take place before the service at 1:00 pm.
