It is with great sadness that the family of Nick Carmelo announces his passing on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 82 years of age.

Nick was born in Fossalto, Italy in 1929 and came to Canada in 1948. He settled in Coleman, Alberta where he worked in the coal mines. In 1951 he left Coleman and headed to the Crowsnest Pass where he worked for CP Rail. It was here that he met the love of his life, Norma Marchi who became his wife in 1957. Together they raised three sons. Nick enjoyed the outdoors. His favourite pass-times were gardening, bush wacking for huckleberries, or dipping a lure in a local stream or lake. Nick enjoyed family time which included time with grandchildren, sitting around a campfire or the kitchen table.

Nick leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years Norma, three sons Randy (Betty) Carmelo, Don (Shawna) Carmelo, and Darren (Tracy) Carmelo, four grandchildren who lovingly called him Nonno, Cara, Corey, Nicola and Olivia who will miss him greatly, his sisters Livia and Pasqualina, his brother Dominic and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Nick was predeceased by his father Goivanni in 1989, his mother Guiseppina in 1996 and his sister Rosa in 2010.
